Yemaya –  Yorùbá Orisha of the living Ocean

(considered the mother of all)

Number: 7

Color: blue and white

Animal: The peacocks

Yemaya Known as the source of all the waters, including the rivers of western Africa.   She is motherly and strongly protective, and cares deeply for all Her children, comforting them and cleansing them of sorrow. She is said to be able to cure infertility in women, and cowrie shells represent Her wealth. She does not easily lose Her temper, but when angered She can be quite destructive and violent, as the sea in a storm.

Yemaya is called the “Mother of All,” as such she rules the maternal aspects in human lives. She likewise is mistress over the oceans  and the source of all waters . She is also known as “Yeye Omo Eja” which means “Mother Whose Children Are Like Fish.” Her many children are as uncountable as the fish in the seven seas. It is said she gave birth to the stars, the moon, the sun, and many orishas. The ache of Yemaya is often described as nurturing, protective, and fruitful.

She may be called upon for help during child birth and for all things to do with motherhood and raising children, protection for unborn babies, help in a crisis to do with a child, She’s an eternal parent! Also for all Womens issues, Witchcraft, washing away sorrows, acquiring ancient wisdom, protecting the home, for beauty, good fortune, good health and for rain. Yemeya rules over the ocean surface and is the patroness deity of surviving shipwrecked persons.

Now that we learned about Yemaya, lets put her on the side with Oshun so we can get some more Goddess and THAN I can tell you about the process of invoking them 🙂
